EL MONTE -- Fourteen former employees at a California aquatic center are asking for their jobs back after they were fired following a video posted on the Internet showing them performing a parody of a viral Korean music video.
Thirteen lifeguards and the pool manager at the municipal El Monte Aquatic Center appeared before the City Council on Tuesday in front of hundreds of people who came to show their support for the former city workers.
The clip features lifeguards in their uniform swimsuits, mimicking scenes from Korean rapper PSY's "Gangnam Style" video. City officials said the video violated prohibitions on use of city property and did not meet employee conduct standards.
Mayor Andre Quintero said he will request an independent review to determine if the ex-workers should get their jobs back.
