A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck just before midnight Saturday along the San Andreas Fault northeast of King City.

The earthquake, which occurred at 11:55 p.m., hit 16 miles northeast of King City at a depth of nearly six miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor was felt in Santa Cruz, though there were no immediate reports of damage here.

The earthquake is the largest in the area since a 5.7-magnitude quake hit Alum Rock in East San Jose in 2007.
