The Santa Barbara News-Press reports ( http://bit.ly/Xl9CWm) police used a flash-bang device while shooting 43-year-old Paul Robinette in the legs with less-than-lethal rounds to end the standoff at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday.
When police arrived, Robinette was standing next to his car with two large blades to his neck, and would jump up and down or run around when officers tried to approach.
After two hours, police deployed a robot to close the car's trunk and door, and hand Robinette a bag with a McDonald's lunch.
After deploying the distraction scheme later, officers were able to handcuff Robinette and take him to a hospital.
