LONG BEACH - A man was wounded in a drive-by shooting Sunday morning in North Long Beach, police said.

The victim, described only as a man in his 20s, and a friend were walking near 52nd Street, east of Long Beach Boulevard, about 3 a.m. when a silver or light-colored compact car approached, according to Sgt. David Marander, a Long Beach Police Department spokesman. One of the people in the car opened fire, striking the victim in his upper torso, Marander said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His friend wasn't injured, Marander said.

The shooting is being investigated as possibly gang related, he said.
