LONG BEACH - St. Mary Medical Center Foundation raised about $500,000 for its CARE and Women's Health Center programs during a recent evening of lively bidding on more than 400 auction items.
The Bella Note 31st Auction and Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel hosted 525 guests who honored Dr. Vincent Esposito, Dr. Patrick Cahill and Rocky Suares, this year's recipients of Life Achievement Awards.
The three recipients were honored for their years of dedication, philanthropic generosity and service to St. Mary and the community.
Cahill, born and educated in Ireland at the Royal College of Radiology, has been co-director of St. Mary's Radiology Department since 1981 and served as chief of staff. He is the staff radiologist at Pacific Hospital and Community Hospital, while also serving as a clinical assistant radiology professor at UCLA Medical Center.
Suares is the managing director of Suares Investment Group of Wells Fargo Advisors and has been an integral part of the St. Mary Foundation and its auction for many years, benefiting many organizations throughout Long Beach, according to the organization.
Esposito, who was born at St. Mary, has been part of the hospital's staff since 1973. He has been co-director of the Radiology Department since 1980 and has served as chief of staff, chairman of the St. Mary community board, and as a member of the St. Mary Foundation Board where he founded and chaired its Charity Golf Tournament for 18 years.
This was a record year for auction sponsorships, stimulated by a challenge from the Evalyn M. Bauer Foundation to match all sponsorships of $5,000 or over.
