WEST HOLLYWOOD - A would-be robber was stabbed at the House of Blues in West Hollywood early this morning and his accomplice was behind bars, authorities said.

The incident at the entertainment venue at 8430 West Sunset Blvd was reported at 12:15 a.m., said Lt. L. Haselrig of the Los Angeles County sheriff's West Hollywood Station. One man was taken into custody, she said. The other would-be robber was treated and booked.

The two were attempting to beat up a patron in a bathroom and take his belongings when a vigilante stabbed them, authorities said.

The more seriously wounded suspect was hospitalized, and the robbery victim was nursing bruises from the bathroom beating, Haselrig said.

It was not known whether the person who aided the robbery victim had a knife or some other type of blade, she said.

Investigators were looking for the vigilante, who could face charges of attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon, said sheriff's Sgt. Jon Klaus.

The club remained open after the incident, Haselrig said, adding that an investigation is under way.
