U-T San Diego ( http://bit.ly/TN1mXV) says a judge ruled Monday that Bryan Chang must face trial on a charge of murder with special circumstances. Prosecutors haven't said whether they will seek the death penalty.
Authorities claim the 31-year-old killed his mother, Sherry Chu Chang, in her Solana Beach home in 2010, then sliced off her right arm and put it in the refrigerator.
The defense says Chang is schizophrenic. He was twice declared incompetent to stand trial and sent to a state mental hospital. His latest hearing occurred after he was ruled competent.
