PACOIMA - A search was under way today for two gang members who shot and wounded two teenage boys in Pacoima. | » POLICE NEWS

The victims -- neither one believed to be a gang member -- were shot around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Van Nuys Boulevard and Norris Avenue after being issued a typical gang challenge by two males who asked them where they were from, said Lt. Brian Bixler of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Station.

The boys, who are 17 and 15, were hospitalized this morning with wounds not believed to be life-threatening, police said. The older boy suffered a gunshot wound to his right shoulder while his companion was hit in the back of the head by a ricochet or bullet fragments, Bixler said.

Investigators received conflicting reports on whether the assailants were on foot or in a vehicle when the shooting took place, he said.
