LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles Sheriff's officials say deputies chased a suspect on foot and didn't open fire until after they were threatened with a gun.

Deputy Kim Manatt says the Nov. 23 shooting took place at approximately 11 a.m. after deputies from the Century Station spotted a 31-year-old man crouching behind a vehicle.

The man ran away as deputies approached, raising their suspicions.

Manatt says the deputies gave chase until the suspect fell, turned and pointed a handgun at them, resulting in a deputy involved shooting. The suspect was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It's unclear if one or more deputies shot at the suspect. The deputies were uninjured.
