The cities of Signal Hill and Long Beach held their annual "tree" lighting ceremony at Discovery Well Park on Wednesday evening.

Even though they don't use an actual tree, with the flick of a switch a 165-foot radio tower in the distance lit up with 36,000 lights. It took six hours for workers to set up twenty 150-foot rope lights from the top of the tower in preparation for Wednesday's lighting ceremony.

Santa Claus was on hand to visit with children, and cookies and hot chocolate were served. Gage Dodson, 7, hands his Christmas wish list to Santa - a list that included a shower curtain for his mother.

The lights will be on nightly from 5:30 p.m. to midnight until January.2.
