WATSONVILLE - A man and a woman reported being attacked Tuesday evening while walking in the area of Holm Road and Anna Street in Watsonville.

A police officer was at Watsonville Community Hospital around 6 p.m. on an unrelated matter when a couple entered the emergency room and said they had been attacked. The man had been stabbed once in the upper torso and both individuals had been battered, Sgt. Tony Magdayao said. The woman suffered lacerations and contusions to her face and body.

The pair told police that they were walking on the street near the track at Rolling Hills School when they were approached by four or five men, approximately 18-24 years of age. The suspects yelled gang slogans at the couple before attacking them. The man and woman, both in their late 20s, fled and drove to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims were unable to provide much information regarding descriptions of the suspects but the investigation is being treated as a gang-related crime.
