Even after a manual recount the Pacific Grove Unified School District's School Bond Measure A still failed to reach a required two-thirds majority to pass.
The measure, which called for a $65 annual parcel tax, had 6,103 yes votes (66.37 percent) and 3,092 no votes (33.63 percent) according to the Monterey County Elections Office.
Last week, the District requested six of the eight precincts be recounted, as the Elections Department had already manually counted two precincts before the request was submitted. There was one ballot change — a voter had voted "No," crossed it out and voted "Yes." The tabulation system saw this as an "overvoted" ballot and did not count it. The Elections Department awarded one more "Yes" vote but this did not take away a "No" vote Measure A. There were no other variances found during the recount.
