OCEANSIDE, Calif.—Skateboarders may be stoked in San Diego County, where the Oceanside City Council has approved a million-dollar skatepark.

The North County Times ( http://bit.ly/R8OKz5) says the council voted unanimously on Wednesday to build a 22,700-square-foot park on city-owned land.

The park, which has been six years in the planning, will feature a bowl, ramps, banks, rails, ledges and a so-called snake run.

City project manager Nathan Mertz, who loved to skateboard when younger, says the park will be a place where beginners can learn and professionals can show off their skills.

Funding comes from a state grant, the Tony Hawk Foundation and developer fees for park improvements.

Construction could begin next year with completion by fall of 2013.
