Two men and a minor were arrested Thursday morning for stealing a car by lifting the keys from a north Monterey gym locker.

Jason Avendano, 19, of Monterey, Alejandro Ernesto, 21, of Seaside, and a 15-year-old male were arrested by Monterey police on Del Monte Avenue in Seaside when they returned to the vehicle after Monterey detectives had located the unoccupied car.

Police had responded to a report from a member of the In-Shape Gym on North Fremont Street that his locker had been burglarized and personal property had been taken, including the keys to his car.

According to police, the minor teen was identified as the burglary suspect.

Avendano and Ernesto were booked into county jail, and the juvenile teen was taken to juvenile hall, and all three charged with burglary, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and gang enhancements. The two adults were also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
