DANA POINT, Calif.—International fishing authorities say a Dana Point man has broken a world record with a 427-pound yellowfin tuna caught earlier this year off the Mexican coast.

U-T San Diego reports ( http://bit.ly/UNDMwE) that the International Game Fish Association has approved Guy Yocom's catch as the new all-tackle world record.

The 55-year-old hooked the fish from a boat in September about 100 miles off Cabo San Lucas.

Yocom's catch breaks the record of 405.2 pounds set in 2010 by Mike Livingston of Sunland.

A La Mesa man, John Petruescu, claims to have landed an even larger yellowfin—445 pounds—earlier this month off of Baja California. However, someone else took the rod twice during the battle, disqualifying him from a record.
