San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum says something went wrong as the man attempted his running launch at the Torrey Pines Gliderport on Monday afternoon.
Lerum tells U-T San Diego ( http://bit.ly/U7ddSs) the man tried to abort his takeoff but couldn't, and instead went over the edge on to the cliff.
A San Diego Fire-Rescue Department helicopter lifted him to safety.
Lerum says the man, whose name has not been released, never lost consciousness, only complained of back pain, but he did not know any further details about the paraglider's injuries.
