LONG BEACH — An investigation was under way Sunday into the death of a man who was found unresponsive near a jetty in Long Beach Harbor on Saturday.

Police officers responded to a call of a man down by the 600 block of East Shoreline Drive around 8:40 a.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived, they found a fullly clothed man lying in the sand, said Will Nash, spokesman for the Long Beach Fire Department.

"He had no pulse when he was found," Nash said. "Paramedics began CPR and transported him to a hospital."

The victim, who Nash said was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Nash said the man had a small cut over his nose and could have fallen.

The coroner's office has yet to determine an exact cause of death, and the victim's identity has not been released pending notification of kin.
