LOS ANGELES - The California Highway Patrol reported no traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways during the New Year's holiday.
The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and ended 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to a department statement.
During that same reporting last year, the CHP reported four traffic- related deaths in Los Angeles County. Statewide, this year, there were 19 deaths, in comparison to 25 last year, according to the statement.
In Los Angeles County, the CHP arrested 285 motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a few more than last year's total of 274.
Statewide, there were 1,273 drunken driving arrests, three more than last year's count of 1,270.
