SANTA CRUZ - Two women escaped from the Blaine Street Women's Jail on New Year's Eve but were apprehended minutes later.
Melissa Ann Bica, 19, and Domenika Marie Galpren, 25, climbed the security fence of the minimum-security facility about 7:45 p.m. Monday, said deputy April Skalland.
A corrections officer saw the them flee and notified other authorities. The pair was found a few minutes later at a gas station on Ocean and Water streets.
Both women were cooperative and booked in to Santa Cruz County Main Jail, deputies said.
Bica was in custody for charges related to drugs and stolen property and awaited placement in a drug treatment program, Skalland said.
Galpren was convicted of auto theft and was serving a jail sentence at Blaine Street, deputies said.
The facility typically houses women with charges related to theft, DUI or drugs, according to the Sheriff's Office.
