SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif.—A freight train has smashed into a car at a Southern California crossing, killing the driver.

City News Service say the crash occurred at about 11:45 p.m. Monday at a crossing in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Fe Springs.

Authorities say a woman in her mid-20s was the only person in the car. Firefighters freed her from the wreckage but she was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Nobody on the train was hurt.
