Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is inviting members of the public to attend a talk on what patients and their family members can do to ensure safety while hospitalized.

Patient safety advocate Ridley Barron will deliver his talk at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Western University of Health Sciences.

Barron's presentation will be in Classroom A of the university's Health Education Center, 701 E. Second St.

In 2004 Barron's 17 month-old son died as a result of a medication error, according to Barron's website. The young boy's death came five days after Barron's wife died following a vehicle crash.

Barron, who is also a minister, talks with members of the public, health care professionals and future health professionals about patient safety, according to a statement from the hospital.

As part of his talk Barron speaks about what patients can do to be safe in hospital settings.
