SANTA FE SPRINGS - Authorities today released the name of a 26- year-old woman who was killed in a train-car collision in Santa Fe Springs.

The freight train and the automobile collided at a crossing at the intersection of Rosecrans and Marquardt avenues around 11:45 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Mike Przybyl of the Whittier Police Department, which patrols Santa Fe Springs.

Killed in the crash was Emily Scott of La Mirada, said Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Firefighters freed Scott, who was the car's only occupant, and took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Przybyl said.

The car, which was badly mangled in the crash, collided with a westbound BNSF train that rolled for about 200 yards before stopping after the crash, a news photographer reported from the scene.

The intersection of Rosecrans and Marquardt was shut down for hours and rail traffic was halted as authorities investigated the crash, Przybyl said.2
