REDWOOD CITY -- An East Palo Alto man faces attempted murder charges for stabbing his boyfriend after the couple fought over their finances, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

David Yun, 30, is accused of chasing down his 34-year-old partner and repeatedly stabbing him early Sunday in a parking lot near their East Palo Alto apartment. The victim suffered two collapsed lungs but survived his injuries, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Yun was being held without bail and didn't enter a plea to the charges Tuesday in San Mateo County Superior Court.

Prosecutors say the men had been living together for at least a year and got into a fight over their finances before the violence. Neighbors got involved after spotting the victim being chased by a knife-wielding man. The neighbors scared away the attacker, who was arrested a short time later in his apartment, police said.

Yun could face life in prison if convicted because prosecutors have alleged the attempted murder was premeditated, Wagstaffe said. He's also charged with felony domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon. Additionally, this case could mean a third strike for Yun, who has prior convictions, Wagstaffe said.
