Relatives tell the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/XcJvMy) that 39-year-old Binh Van Nguyen was sleeping in his car Friday when plain clothes officers started banging on his car.
Police say the officers were in uniform and were forced to open fire because Nguyen jumped over the seat and tried to ram them.
Relatives say Nguyen didn't know who the men were and couldn't have rammed them because of how his car was parked.
There have been peaceful protests and city officials held a town hall meeting Monday to assure residents the shooting is being investigated.
Nguyen is survived by his wife and two teenage sons.
