POMONA _ A clinical psychologist accused of molesting two boys during counseling sessions appeared in court Wednesday for an arraignment.

Thomas Gary Amberson, 56, of Upland was present and out of custody in the Pomona Superior Court where he pleaded not guilty to four counts of lewd acts on a child and one count of possessing child pornography, according to court records.

Claremont police arrested Amberson on Nov. 15, following reports from a 9-year-old boy that the man committed lewd acts with him during a session.

Amberson, who counsels children and adults at his private practice in Claremont, was also accused of committing sex acts with a 13-year-old boy between September and October 2007, according to the criminal complaint.

Prosecutors did not file charges in the first case due to insufficient evidence. But the complaint filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office includes charges related to both victims.

Detectives began their investigation in November.

They later searched Amberson's home and took his computer, which allegedly contained child pornography, police said. He was arrested, booked into jail and then released after he posted bail.

Amberson is due back in court on March 6.
