SAN JOSE, Calif.—San Jose police are looking for a man they say tried to abduct a two-year-old girl by prying her from her mother's arms as the girl and her sister played in front of the family home.

A police spokesman says the mother called police around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and told them that as she tried to take her daughter and her other child into their home a man grabbed the girl's legs and tried to pull her away.

Officer Albert Morales says during the struggle the mother was able get her daughter away, though the child's shoes were pulled off.

The mother—who has not been named—hustled her two girls back into the home and called police.

Police say the incident began when the man approached the mother and her daughters in front of their home and made a comment that made her uncomfortable.
