PORTLAND, Ore.—Oregon state police say a 16-year-old girl whose body was found along Highway 6 east of Tillamook was shot to death.

KATU-TV ( http://is.gd/B0jTHQ) says Kayla Ann Hendrickson was from the Beaverton, Ore. area. An autopsy conducted Sunday confirmed Hendrickson died of gunshot wounds.

Police say a person of interest in the case fatally shot himself in northern California Saturday. The man's name was not immediately released.

Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings says a state trooper found Hendrickson's body late Friday after a witness reported suspicious circumstances.

The witness saw a full-size pickup stopped on the highway shoulder, and a man and a woman were seen outside the vehicle.

Police say the person of interest was seen in Humboldt County, Calif., in a vehicle matching the highway vehicle's description.
