A Victorville man who is suspected of beating a 2-year-old boy is scheduled to be arraigned in court Wednesday.

Cesar Omar Melgar, 28, was booked into jail on suspicion of cruelty to a child and is set to appear in Victorville Superior Court, according to booking records.

San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies came to Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville on Friday after a woman brought her son to the hospital due to abdominal pain, sheriff's officials said. He was later flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center after doctors noticed bruises on his body and internal bleeding that they suspected was from physical abuse.

Investigators discovered the victim's second cousin, who was living in his home, had abused him.

Deputies arrested him Saturday.
