San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies said the woman suffered a broken arm, fractures to her face as well as cuts and bruises to her hands, arms and face in the attack in the 900 block of West 40th Street. It was unknown if her condition had improved.
Deputies received a call at 4:24 a.m. Saturday from the woman, who told dispatchers there was a man in her house. The robber attacked her and then beat the woman's husband before fleeing with cash, a 1935 Colt .22-caliber handgun and other property, sheriff's officials said.
The woman's husband suffered minor injuries and has been treated and released at an area hospital.
Investigators said the robber is black, 5-feet-10 inches tall, 175 to 180 pounds and wore a khaki-colored hooded sweatshirt.
