ADELANTO - Four months after losing their last superintendent, the Adelanto Elementary School District has a replacement.

At their Tuesday night meeting, the school board voted to offer the job to Lily Matos DeBlieux. She's currently the assistant superintendent for elementary schools in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.

"It was a 5-0 vote, unanimous vote. Just a really strong vote of confidence," said interim superintendent Dick Bray, who was the superintendent of Hesperia Unified for 12 years and Tustin Unified for five. Bray had been on the job since September and will hand over the reins to DeBlieux by March 1.

"I am honored to have been appointed Superintendent for the Adelanto Elementary School District," DeBlieux is quoted as saying in a press release issued by the district. "It is my pleasure to serve this diverse community, which focuses on education for its students. Adelanto and its adjoining neighborhoods attracted me to work and live in an area known for its welcoming spirit and a commitment to improving community resources through educational excellence and business development."

Bray called DeBlieux "a really terrific lady."

Her predecessor, Darin Brawley, resigned in September to accept a position as the superintendent of Compton Unified.

DeBlieux isn't the only new face on the school board. On Jan. 9, the board appointed Lisa Marie Garcia to fill a seat vacated by Jerome Wright, who was elected to both the school board and the Adelanto City Council in November and ultimately chose the latter.

But Garcia isn't really a new face. "It's not like she doesn't have any experience with the board," Bray said.

Garcia previously sat on the board from 2008 to 2010.
