The unidentified man is believed to be wanted by Riverside Police officials, said Sgt. Jeremy Martinez with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Hesperia station.
Deputies went to a home near Timberlane Avenue and Juniper Street around 6:30 p.m., made contact with the man who had threatened reportedly threatened to kill himself, officials said, though it was unclear of the man was armed. Soon after deputies arrived, the man jumped into his white GMC Sierra pick-up truck and fled the scene.
Speeds in the pursuit never went over 50 miles per hour, Martinez said.
The driver drove south on Summit Valley Road and eventually became stuck on Foley Road which is a dirt road, officials said.
The man was taken into custody. His name was not immediately released.
The investigation is still ongoing.
