HOLLYWOOD - A series of collisions involving as many as 15 vehicles injured at least six people on the rain-slick Hollywood (101) Freeway in Hollywood this morning, authorities said.

The four separate crashes were reported at 12:20 a.m. on the southbound 101 at Highland Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada, adding that major injuries were reported.

A Los Angeles Fire Department captain said she had preliminary reports from the scene that six people were taken to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately reported.

The crashes, which involved some 15 vehicles, closed all southbound lanes of the freeway, and traffic was being diverted at Highland Avenue, Posada said.

It was unclear what role the rainy weather played in the collisions.
