The district's board of trustees has hired La Quinta-based firm Leadership Associates to recruit the new superintendent, who will replace Gary Rutherford.
"It's a really wonderful community from the police chief to the mayor to teachers and principals to classified members, you name it, parents," said Dennis Smith, a partner with Leadership Associates.
The associates spent all of Jan. 15 with teachers, staffers, city officials and community groups gaining input. They also held a community forum to seek additional input.
Individuals unable to participate in the forum can take an online survey at http://uusd-ca.schoolloop.com.
The associates will take the information that they have gathered through the survey and meetings to the Board of Trustees to help in the recruitment of a new superintendent. The attendees named several characteristics they think the next superintendent should have:
Have local ties
Person of character
"I would think it would be two things that I would look for in a new superintendent. One would be that they're from this area," said John MacKinney of Upland.
"The second thing is successful experience as superintendent of unified school district within this area again the Inland Valley, Inland Empire. At least in close proximity."
