PALO ALTO -- The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office has identified a pedestrian who was fatally struck while crossing Embarcadero Road as Ming Yuan Zuo, 75, of Palo Alto.
She died at Stanford Hospital after being hit by a pickup truck on Friday night.
According to police reports, Zuo was walking southbound just before 8 p.m. Friday and was crossing Embarcadero mid-block between Bret Harte Street and Walnut Drive. As she was crossing the eastbound lanes, she was struck by a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup, driven by a San Jose woman in her 30s. An ambulance responded to emergency calls and transported Zuo to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the pickup stopped and cooperated with investigators. She was not arrested or cited, and neither alcohol nor drugs is suspected, Officer Sean Downey reported.
Officers from the Palo Alto Police Department's Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash. Police ask anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the Palo Alto Police 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.
