SANTA CRUZ - Ocean Street was closed early Sunday and into the afternoon after an alleged drunken driver lost control of her car and struck a power pole about 4 a.m., police said.

Daisy Morales, 21, was twice the legal limit and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Sgt. Dave Perry said.

She was driving a Toyota Corolla when she lost control and veered into a power pole, sheering off the pole at its base, Perry said. The accident was between Broadway and Barson streets.

Perry said he did not believe the accident caused a significant power outage, but the westbound lanes on the street were still closed at 1 p.m. while crews worked to remove low-hanging wires and repair the damage.
