Colton police officers arrested a 61-year-old man suspected of trying to break into a business on Sunday morning.

The owner of Jim-N-I Tire Services, at 444 East Valley Blvd., was working inside the building about 10:30 a.m. - a time when the business was closed - when he was alerted by someone trying to break into the back of the business, according to a Colton police news release.

The business owner called the police, who notified an officer patrolling the 400 block of East Valley, officials said. The officer coordinated with additional officers to create a perimeter around the business and found the suspect - who was allegedly using a pick axe to gain entry to the building.

Francisco J. Perez was taken into custody and booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of burglary.
