When the building reopens in the spring, it will have rooms for its permanent collection, featured exhibits as well as a gift shop and more.
But that will also cost the museum, which is almost entirely comprised of volunteers with the exception of the museum coordinator. It normally takes the CCAA about $30,000 to annually operate the museum, and it will need an additional $15,000 for the relocation and construction costs.
The museum does not charge for admission but does accept donations. They are hoping to raise a good portion of the necessary funds through new memberships, which is $30 annually.
But DeDiemar Jones is appealing to those who are already members to make an additional donation toward the construction costs, she said. "We are about this community, so far we've been a secret and we don't want to be that anymore," DeDiemar Jones said.
