The Ontario-Montclair School District Board of directors discussed the procedures for renaming school facilities at its meeting Thursday night. Some board members scrutinized the suggestion to rename the site to the Alex Espinoza Family Center.
Instead, board member Maureen Mendoza requested that at its next meeting the district compare current policy with other policies in place for renaming facilities and discuss it at a future meeting. "I'm not sure why we are renaming any school at this point," Mendoza said. "Do we really want to rename a school at OMSD?"
Board member Kris Brake echoed her sentiments adding that she was concerned with the financial costs associated to any changes.
"We have more pressing manners to attend to," she said. "I just don't see the benefit of doing this."
Board member Steve Garcia first made the request at the Jan. 17 meeting and asked that it be placed on the agenda for the February meeting.
