CHINO - The Chino Valley Fire District board selected Paul Segalla as the new Fire Chief.

The terms of the three-year employment agreement were approved by the Board of Directors at their meeting tonight.

He is expected to begin with the district on March 4.

Segalla has been the Fire Chief for the West Covina Fire Department since 2008.

He has a long history in the fire service, dating back to 1979 when he began his career as a paid on call firefighter in Harvey, Illinois, according to the Fire District's news release.

The 51-year-old Rancho Cucamonga resident is currently an active member of various fire service organizations, including the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the California Fire Chiefs Association and other regional Fire Chief Associations.

Previously, he served as an integral member of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, and instructed for the Illinois Fire Service Institute and the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association.

He also served as the Fire Officer Program Director for the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute teaching throughout the Midwest in areas such as Planning, Incident Management, Unified Command and Officer Development, according to the news release.

Segalla's appointment comes after the retirement of Fire Chief Kirk Summers in October.
