An 18-year-old Mountain View High School student was arrested Thursday for allegedly causing a disturbance when he strolled onto the campus wearing camouflage and a gas mask.
Officers were called to the school at 3535 Truman Ave. at 8:17 a.m., according to a police statement. Officers from Mountain View and Los Altos set up a perimeter around the campus and began searching for the person, who they did not know at the time was a student at the school.
Officers recalled an encounter with a similarly dressed student several months ago and determined he was the person who had caused Thursday's disturbance.
After being found in class, the student said he had worn the clothing and gas mask as a prank, police said.
No weapons were involved and police stressed that the safety of students was never in jeopardy.
Officers arrested Christopher Egerton, 18, of Mountain View on suspicion of causing a disturbance on school grounds and admonished him, police said.
