FREMONT -- An on-ramp to northbound Interstate 680 and a short stretch of Mission Boulevard will close for five hours early Wednesday morning so that crews can prepare for a water pipeline improvement project in south Fremont.
The on-ramp and the roadway, set between Interstate 680 and Curtner Road, will close at 12:01 a.m., said Daniel Jaimes, a spokesman for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. They are scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m., in time for the morning commute, Jaimes said.
During those hours, motorists are asked to take alternative routes and avoid the construction area, which borders the city's Weibel, Warm Springs and Vineyards/Avalon neighborhoods.
The road closure is part of a construction project in which seismic upgrades will be made to pipelines along the Hayward fault.
