CASTRO VALLEY -- An Alameda County Sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries after his patrol car was sideswiped by a suspected drunk driver.

On Friday around 5:04 p.m., 27-year-old San Leandro resident Rigoberto Custodio was driving his 2004 Chevrolet Malibu on State Route 185 just south of 162nd Avenue at an unknown rate of speed, according to a report released by the California Highway Patrol.

On the side of the road, an Alameda County Sheriff's patrol car was parked against the curb, and a deputy was closing the driver's side door when Custodio made an unsafe turn and drifted towards the parked patrol vehicle.

Custodio's Chevy sideswiped the left rear of the patrol car and collided into the still partially-open driver's door, the report said.

The deputy was taken to Eden Hospital and treated for undisclosed minor injuries. Custodio was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and transported to Eden Hospital to be treated for minor injuries before he was released and booked into Santa Rita Jail for DUI and for driving on a suspended license.
