POMONA -- Officers responding to complaints from residents about drug and prostitution activity in their neighborhood arrested a Rialto man Sunday morning and confiscated about $5,000 in methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, officials said.

Jay Charter, 55, of Rialto was arrested on suspicion of of sales of methamphetamine Sunday morning, according to a Pomona Police Department release.

An officer was conducting extra patrol at the Lemon Tree Motel at 1700 Gillette Rd. shortly after 7 a.m. due to numerous complaints from neighbors about illegal activities taking place at the motel, officials said. Authorities learned one of the people staying at the motel had active warrants. Officers contacted the man, identified as Charter, and found about two ounces of methamphetamine in Charter's room. The drugs have an estimated street value of about $5,000.

A further search of the room yielded a scale commonly used in the sales of drugs such as meth, according to the release.

Authorities remind residents they can ask the police station for extra patrols if they see illegal activity in their neighborhoods.
