In that job, he will be responsible for growing and managing that division of the company.
"We're obviously thrilled to add a person of Neil Derry's stature to the agency," said Nicole Desmond, the firm's CEO. "That growth of the public affairs division is a priority for us and something that we're confident that Neil Derry can help us accomplish."
Derry has served as a regional public affairs manager for Southern California Edison and has experience as a senior account executive in the public relations industry. He also has extensive experience managing political campaigns and has served as the executive director of the San Bernardino County Republican Party.
"I'm very pleased with the opportunity to join Desmond & Louis, a growing firm that has an impeccable record of integrity and of delivering results for their clients. I look forward to the opportunity to work with Lou and Nicole Desmond and the rest of the team to grow the public affairs division, which I know we can do successfully," Derry said.
Desmond & Louis has multiple divisions including: media relations, event management, social media and public affairs.
"I am here to expand the public affairs side of a very credible firm," Derry said. "We are going to be here to help businesses grow and bring investments into the area.
"Government has become complicated," Derry said. It can be a harrowing process to get through all the permits and regulations to open a business .... I can help businesses with any issues they have government agencies and personalities in the Inland Empire," he said.
Louis Desmond said the firm has decided to accept more campaign work, particularly initiatives and referendums and "selectively doing candidate campaign work."
In November, Derry lost a bid to James Ramos for a second term on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.
Previously, he had been a member of the San Bernardino City Council.
In July 2011, he pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of failing to report a campaign contribution.
Derry said then that he was a victim of "political prosecution."
