LAKESIDE, Calif.—Officials say a 7-year-old girl saved her family from an early-morning fire at their Lakeside home.

Friday's 3:30 a.m. fire on Rover Street appears to have started in a room where Victoria Mulvaney and her 2-year-old sister were sleeping.

Victoria tried to get her sister out of her crib. When she couldn't, she went to wake up her pregnant mom and her boyfriend Juan Gomez.

Everyone got out of the house safely. Victoria's mother was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. One of four family dogs died but the others made it out.

Gomez tells KGTV-TV they told Victoria she saved her sister.

The cause is unknown, but officials say it did about $100,000 damage.

Lakeside is a semi-rural community east of San Diego.
