A stolen iPad was traced by the owner and police through its locator device in Salinas early Tuesday morning, police reported.

Police said the owner noticed the tracking device had been turned on at 1 a.m. and told police it was part of loot taken in a burglary of his home last week.

Officers responded to a house in the 500 block of Rainer Drive, police said, contacted the parents and found that a 17-year-old boy on probation who lives there was not at home.

A search of the youth's room turned up property taken from at least five different home burglaries in North Salinas, police said, adding that the suspect's 15-year-old brother was cited for possession of stolen property.
