Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System doesn't have a new chief executive officer after all.
The Salinas hospital said today that it couldn't reach a final contract agreement with Matt Gerlach, who was announced earlier this month as the new CEO.
"We are sorry that Matt felt he needed to reverse course on his decision," said Harry Wardwell, hospital board president in a prepared statement.
Wardwell said the search for a new CEO brought forward a number of good candidates, "so we have some good options before us."
Hospital officials said they had reached agreement with Gerlach on most terms of a contract, but couldn't resolve "a few remaining details," such as contract length and severance considerations.
