A driver crashed into an apartment building Tuesday in Victorville, receiving critical injuries and knocking out power in part of the city, fire officials said.

San Bernardino County firefighters came to the 14100 block of Rodeo Drive at 10:14 a.m., finding a truck that had crashed into the building and penetrated it by about five feet. The crash also caused a major electrical vault to be knocked off its foundation.

The vault was still energized when firefighters arrived.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle.

Firefighters shored up the building and rescued the driver after Southern California Edison personnel de-energized the vault.

Paramedics flew the driver to a hospital for treatment.

The building received an estimated $10,000 damage from the collision.
