APTOS -- A 21-year-old San Jose State University student reported missing last week was found in Aptos on Thursday night.
Gabriel Lorette-Smith, a San Lorenzo Valley High School graduate originally from Ben Lomond, had been camping in Forest of Nisene Marks State Park for about three days, his family said. He was last seen by his family on April 18 in Watsonville.
About 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Lorette-Smith called his mother from Aptos.
"I raced over there and picked him up," said his mother, Sadie Furness.
Lorette-Smith had lost about 10 pounds but otherwise was in good physical condition, she said. He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.
Furness said Lorette-Smith, a third-year engineering student at San Jose State, had acted out of character recently and was unable to care for himself.
Lorette-Smith also went missing from San Jose State on March 17. He was found on March 19 in Ben Lomond.
