Feldner presents art event Friday
"Canvas for a Community," an event featuring local art, music and food, will take place 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Feldner Project, 1030 41st Ave.
Featured artists are: João de Brito, Barbara Downs, Peter Hanson, Jane Gregorius, Dee Hooker, Michael Leeds, Jimbo Phillips, Diane Rigoli, Robynn Smith, Marie Sarni and Robbie Schoen.
Live music by Mark Mooney will provide music, and there will be food from Original Sin Desserts & Catering and wine by Wargin Wines. Admission is free.
Geyer to open gallery
The grand opening of The Gary Yakima Geyer Fine Art Gallery will take place 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the Kings Village Shopping Center, 230-D Mount Hermon Road. Admission is free. Food and wine will be available, and the artist will be on hand throughout the evening.
In the early 1970s, Geyer helped turn Capitola Village into a thriving art colony. His last one-person show was in Shanghai in 2006. He has pledged the first $10,000 of sales from his new gallery to the Regional Artisans Association, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding the reach of artists living in Santa Cruz County.
The association is behind Scotts Valley Artisans, which features the work of 130 Santa Cruz County artists, the Mural-in-a-Day Project, slated for May 18-19 in Scotts Valley, and plans to launch www.SantaCruzArtists.com, an online venue for Santa Cruz County artists. Financial talk set for Thursday
Lynne Murphy will present a seminar on financial planning 7:30-9 a.m. Thursday for "Wake Up Santa Cruz" at the Museum of Art & History Auditorium, 705 Front St. She is a financial adviser at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.
Cost is$ 15 for chamber members and $25 for nonmembers. The seminar, which was rescheduled from April 4, is limited to 40 participants. Reservations are required at www.santacruzchamber.org.
